John Mortimer

Sir John Mortimer, CBE, QC was an English barrister, dramatist, screenwriter, and author. Mortimer’s radio debut was in 1955 for the BBC Light Programme, with his dramatic adaptation of his own novel, Like Men Betrayed. Mortimer is best remembered for his creation of ‘Horace Rumpole,’ a barrister inspired by his father, who’s speciality was defence at London’s Old Bailey. Despite working as a lawyer, Mortimer would write before attending court in order to develop his career. He passed away in 2009 aged 85.
