Tom Stoppard

Sir Tom Stoppard was born 3 July 1937 in Czechoslovakia. A child refugee, he fled imminent Nazi occupation and settled in Britain following the war in 1946. Stoppard has written for TV, radio, film and stage, with notable projects including ‘Arcadia’, ‘The Coast of Utopia’ and ‘Every Good Boy Deserves Favour’. He is a key playwright for the National Theatre and his many works have inspired generations around the world. Stoppard received a knighthood in 1997 and in 2000 was awarded the Order of Merit by Her Majesty the Queen.
