Robert Hardy
1925-2017
Robert Hardy joined the Royal Shakespeare Company after war service and Oxford. He played many seasons at Stratford and at the Old Vic, and starred in plays in the West End, on Broadway and in Paris. His television credits include ‘The Far Pavilions’; ‘Northanger Abbey’; ‘Middlemarch’; ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA; and ‘The Wilderness Years’, for which he won a Broadcasting Guild Award. His many films include ‘Frankenstein’, ‘Sense and Sensibility’, ‘Mrs Dalloway’, ‘An Ideal Husband’ and four Harry Potter films. He is the author of ‘Longbow’ and ‘The Great Warbow’ and presented the television programmes ‘Longbow’, ‘Gordon of Khartoum’ and ‘Horses in our Blood’. He was awarded a CBE in 1981.
