Eileen Atkins

Dame Eileen Atkins, a prolific actor and writer, trained at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and starred at the Old Vic in ‘Richard II’, ‘The Tempest’, ‘Semi-Detached’ with Laurence Olivier, and ‘Exit the King’ with Alec Guinness. Amongst her many Awards are: the Evening Standard Best Actress Award for ‘The Killing of Sister George’; the Variety Club Award for ‘Vivat! Vivat Regina!’; Olivier Best Actress Awards for ‘The Unexpected Man’ and ‘Honour’; a Special Citation, New York Drama Critics’ Circle for ‘A Room of One’s Own’; BAFTA Best Actress Award for the BBC’s ‘Cranford’; the Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Screenplay for ‘Mrs Dalloway’. She was awarded a CBE in 1990 and made a Dame Commander in 2001.
