John Milton

1608-1674

John Milton, regarded as the greatest epic poet in the English language, was also a political philosopher and pamphleteer and dedicated over twenty years of his life to the cause of republicanism. He was totally blind by the time he completed his masterpiece ‘Paradise Lost’ in 1663. He published ‘Paradise Regained’ in 1671 and later ‘Samson Agonistes’.
