Bob Geldof
Bob Geldof was born in Dublin, Ireland. In 1975 he became lead singer/ songwriter of ‘The Boomtown Rats’.
In 1984, shocked by television pictures of famine in Ethiopia, he created the concert ‘Band Aid’, followed by ‘Live Aid’ in 1985, and ‘Live 8’ in 2005. Broadcast live worldwide they raised massive sums for the eradication of global poverty. He was awarded an honorary knighthood in 1986, and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
More recently, he produced and presented ‘Fanatic Heart’ his documentary on Nobel Prize-winning Irish poet, William Butler Yeats.
The Rats’ first album in 36 years ‘Citizens Of Boomtown’, was released with the publication of his book, ‘Tales Of Boomtown Glory’, the complete lyrics from ‘Boomtown Rats’ and seven solo albums, Faber Music, 2020.
