Poet
Robert Browning
1812-1889
Robert Browning achieved fame late in life with The Ring and the Book (1868/69). His earlier works – Dramatic Lyrics (1842), Men and Women (1855) and Dramatis Personae (1864), testify to his mastery of the dramatic monologue; many of the poems are recognised as enduring works of genius. He was married to the poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
